The plain tablets dissolve in water, and it feels that the dissolution rate is similar to that of VC, so the same slow-release coating powder as the VC controlled-release tablets is selected. After coating, the dissolution experiment was done, and it was found that the release rate was too slow, and it took more than 40 hours to release. So the coated tablets were crushed again and pressed. The coating with more micropores was selected for coating, and the effect was ideal.
Comment: The coating achieves slow-release, which uses the osmotic pressure generated after the effective ingredients are dissolved to promote the uniform release of the effective ingredients. Although the osmotic pressure of each effective ingredient is different, the saturated osmotic pressure of each is constant. It has nothing to do with factors such as particle size, shape, and hardness of the plain tablets. Moreover, after crushing, the slow-release coating film does not affect the osmotic pressure of the effective ingredients.
Therefore, when the type of slow-release coating powder selected is not suitable, if the release is too fast, the coating thickness can be appropriately increased to slow down the release rate. When the next batch is produced, a slow-release coating powder with fewer micropores can be selected, and the cost of the first batch of production will only increase slightly. If the release is too slow, it can be crushed and reworked like the ferrous sulfate + VC in this case, without wasting raw materials.
In addition, since there is no need to worry about waste, the pilot test can be carried out directly. The speed of new product development can be greatly accelerated. If the arrangement is tight, two or three batches of new products can be trial-produced every month.
